It's Sun. Day. And Other Rambling Thoughts.

My random spring happiness has me frolicking like those little baby goats or lambs. Figuratively speaking of course. At my age, frolicking could aggravate my sciatica or make me pee unexpectedly.

I have finally woken up to a sunny day (that threatens to stay for  all of the daytime hours). It has also arrived without chilly (Alaskan front) winds that rob your sunny day of all its joy.

The Boy - the Beau - the Ball Cap (should we just call him B3 from here on out? Let's try it.) is in a golf tournament this weekend. Hillbilly Classic. Where do they get these names. He's happy to be a) out on the greens, b) wearing his new treasure (the new Second Skin golf jacket he found at Value Village for 14.99! Which, to be honest I was like - "Oh, that green looks nice on you" - but otherwise was underwhelmed with the significance of this purchase.), c) partnered with an ex-golf pro and d) making some money off this tournament.

So yeah - a day to myself and I'm going to pack it full of??? Random stuff.

My first stop was to Shoppers Drug Mart. Huh? A sunny day and you're going to Shoppers? Well, for one thing, it's time for me to re-think my makeup. I am a CHEAP, no-nonsense make-up person. I don't like it thick or too bright. I prefer an au natural kind of thing with as little cost attached to it as possible. My foundation usually costs me a whopping $6.97 at Walmart. I never pay more than that. So...imagine the little paradigm shift when, upon a visit to the Bay (where B3 likes to buy his cologne...this time he bought some new Prada...which is not my favourite, but apparently it's not all about me) and I found myself at the perfume counter for the first time...ever? Way back in the teen age days I bought the trendy perfume (remember Charlie?) you could get at any drugstore. But here I was, at a bonafide perfume counter and the long and short of it, I purchased a bottle of Chanel (not No. 5 - that is sooo last century).  While at the Chanel perfume counter, B3 asked the attendant if she had any samples and I came away with a small blister pack of their Velvet Foundation. I wasn't expecting to be impressed by it - but I was! I determined before I even tried it that I would never pay the price they were asking for it - but I did! It's the nicest, lightest, most...velvety foundation I have ever used.  So - yes, I walked into Shoppers this morning, sans make-up, to try a cheaper price point (than Chanel) but higher price point (than my $6.97 Cover Girl) foundation. The lovely attendant who declared me to have beautiful skin (which is likely what she tells everyone but still, I'm happy to take the compliment) applied this "Make Up Magic" to me. Let's just say I walked away with some new foundation. And bronzer. And mascara. And blush. I got a deal, OK?

After skipping away (in my head) with my new purchase, I parked in front of Church's Bakery in Comox. I dropped off a letter at the Post Office down the block then walked on the sunny side of the street to inspect a new women's clothing boutique that had opened up this winter. I was definitely the most dressed-down person there in my yoga pants (which a patron stopped to comment how cute they were) and pink North Face jacket. I was also the youngest. Which is easy to do in Comox. After scrolling each and every rack, inspecting a few purses, and pieces of jewelry - determining that most of the inventory was not my thing nor was it my magic price range - I walked back to my car and smiled. Hyacinths are out. Daffodils in full bloom. Magnolia trees too. Cherry blossoms won't be long until they burst out. Spring is HERE!  I dodged some old guy gunning his electric scooter way too fast in my direction on the sidewalk. Yield to pedestrians you old codger! (That was my inside voice). While I continued my walk, I passed another old coot - resplendent in his bright yellow rain jacket with orange reflective strips - and disreputable toque. Wary that he might be a crazy old coot, I opted for a smile only. He managed a surprisingly sturdy - "Good Morning". I tried to reply but then - you know those times when your brain must go to sleep? Or it's taken a time out? Or maybe it's racing through too many options for greetings? Well, my greeting came out as "HIGH-LAY"  Yup. You heard me. "High-Lay". That, in case you can't tell, is a triple combo of Hi - Hello - Good Day. Yeah - me in my bright pink North Face and cute yoga pants - am a blethering idiot some times.  Who's the crazy one now?!

I stopped in the bakery and bought verboten items for breakfast tomorrow - some yummy looking blueberry and peach danishes that...sorry...drooling there a little...that may or may not make it until the morning. What B3 doesn't know won't hurt him, right?

Oh yes - which reminds me - I'm "doing" Easter for the first time in a few (five?) years. And by doing Easter I mean, I bought B3 a chocolate bunny and some Mini Eggs. I'll surprise him with a little Easter basket tomorrow - and we'll have breakfast - that may or may not include blueberry and peach danishes.  The other thing I'm doing for Easter this year is cooking a big meal. I have invited a single friend of B3 who has no family here and so I'll cook a turkey (cuz I had one in my freezer...don't even remember buying one, but there it was) and make all the fixings for the three of us. I made a fantastic Rhubarb Cobbler yesterday for dessert. It should be good.

But today? It will be a Sun. Day. (see what I did there?  It's Saturday and tomorrow's Sunday but today will be a Sun. Day. Yeah - if you have to explain it...)

So I'm sitting on my back patio for the FIRST time this year, directly in the sun and I will putter with my pots and garden; find some bird seed and hummingbird food, and bask in this WARMTH. Then, once the sun has moved on, I will too. But for now, I've happily gobbled my day old wood fired pizza from the Bakery, swallowed some Echinacea (which was the other reason I went to Shoppers - cuz is it a cold or allergies I'm feeling?), and rattled off this blog because all I wanted to tell you was how I said HIGH-LAY out loud to some old coot this morning.

Happy Easter!
